Psychology Licensure Disclosures
Although the Master of Science in Psychology is not a counseling degree program, coursework from the program may be used in preparation for becoming a licensed Professional Counselor. Internship Option graduates are eligible for the counselor licensure in Montana. If you are interested in seeking licensure, be sure to discuss this with your faculty advisor/mentor. Students should discuss state licensure requirements in the state in which they are seeking licensure with their faculty advisor/mentor.
In addition to the educational requirements for licensure as a Clinical Professional Counselor in Montana, the following requirements must also be met:
- Proof of completion of 3,000 hours of supervised counseling experience that meets the criteria in ARM 24.219.604
- Pass one of the following national exams administered by the National Board of Counselor Certification (NBCC):
Option 1: National Counselor Examination for Licensure and Certification (NCE); or
Option 2: National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE)
Students should also be aware that criminal background, citizenship status, residency, age, and other factors may be condition for licensure in Montana. Students are advised to review all available information on the .
