Next Step: Movin' On Transition Program
What is Movin' On?
Transitioning from high school to either college or the workforce is an anxiety inducing time for the life of any student, especially one with disabilities. Movin’ On is an initial exposure to post-secondary education with the highest quality transition experience for high school students with disabilities.
It provides a mentoring relationship between high school students with disabilities and current MSUB students who also have a disability. Mentoring is delivered through campus visits and arranged meetings using technology. The mentors address student concerns and offer guidance on how to successfully navigate the college experience.
Movin’ On is a two-option program. The first option occurs during the school year, the students can visit college campuses (Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿ÚÃâ·Ñ, City College, and Rocky Mountain College) in the Billings area. These visits allow the students the opportunity to compare a public four-year institution, a two-year vocational college, and a private four-year college. There is no cost for the students, families, or schools to participate in this program. Students who participate in this option are automatically accepted into the summer camp if they desire to participate.
If schools are interested in participating in this program, please contact Richie Solomon at 406-657-2092 or richard.solomon@msubillings.edu.
The second option is the Movin’ On summer camp held each June on the campus of Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿ÚÃâ·Ñ (MSUB). The highlight of this camp is an on-campus experience at MSUB. Students live in dorms, eat in the cafeteria, attend classes on the MSUB and City College campuses, and tour three college campuses. Books, fees, tuition, room, and board will be provided at no charge to students accepted into the program. The four-day event is staffed by the MSUB mentors.
